What does a heavy equipment mechanic do?

  • Determines the condition of heavy equipment on the job site by performing inspections and tests to identify damaged or worn parts;
  • Replaces defective parts, components or systems, using appropriate tools;
  • Maintains a preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment to ensure lubrication, tire replacement and tune-ups;
  • Performs hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic troubleshoots on air conditioning and grease systems.

What does a welder do?

  • Read shop drawings and specifications;
  • Prepare materials required for tasks;
  • Measure and cut materials required to complete tasks;
  • Comply with health and safety regulations.

What does it take to apply?

  • Vocational diploma and/or relevant experience in the field;
  • Considerable knowledge of the tools and equipment used and required for the overhaul, repair and maintenance of heavy equipment;
  • Experience in troubleshooting hydraulic and electrical systems.
